Senior Conservation Officer
Lancaster district has an outstanding built environment and a significant collection of heritage assets including more than 1,300 listed buildings, 37 conservation areas and many areas of archaeological importance. The Council is looking for a Senior Conservation Officer to lead the challenge of conserving and enhancing these valued heritage assets.
The Senior Conservation Officer will set the professional direction for the small conservation team. Whilst personally focusing primarily on the most significant development proposals that affect heritage assets, the Senior Officer will guide colleagues in the development of the Council’s heritage practice.
Candidates must possess a degree in Historic Building Conservation, and/or a degree with much content related to built heritage, particularly History of Art or History of Architecture It is also essential that the successful candidate has a full membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC). You need to have completed a minimum of five years’ professional experience in a built conservation environment following the completion of your IHBC accredited qualification.
You must be able to demonstrate the leadership capabilities needed to provide confident professional direction to colleagues and robustly advocate for the conservation of heritage.
The successful candidate will need to travel throughout the district to undertake site visits and will need to organise and lead at consultation events, occasionally outside of normal office hours.
You will also be required to present reports to elected members and occasionally represent the council at court to support heritage enforcement.
The hours of work are 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday and you will be based at Morecambe Town Hall.
