Cleansing Operative x4
Lancaster City Council wishes to recruit four reliable, enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to assist in the delivery of the important practical services provided by Environmental Services. Street Cleansing is a very high-profile service and we need the best people available.
The work can be varied and interesting and it is essential you can appreciate the important contribution these services have in improving our local environment, economic development and the image of the area. Your role will be part of a team that maintains the cleanliness of the district’s streets, parks and open spaces.
Based at White Lund Depot in Morecambe, the main duties of the post will be to walk with a handcart and remove all litter and detritus from a scheduled area of the district. Other duties include emptying of litterbins within a defined area, assisting with the removal of fly tipping, snow clearance and de-icing and maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicles.
You must possess good communication skills, be able to learn quickly and have the ability to undertake a range of duties with minimum supervision.
A full UK 7.5 tonne C1 driving licence is essential as this role entails travelling from site to site, transporting equipment, and removal of fly tipping and emptying of litterbins. Large distances will need to be covered. The post holder will be required to drive the Schmidt and Johnson road sweepers and other vehicles within the department.
The hours of work will be 37 hours per week, working 5 days out of 7 on a shift rota basis, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
The nature of the position means that you will be required to work in all weather conditions. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided.
