This is a fantastic time to join the Repairs and Maintenance (RMS) Department, as they are currently expanding and developing the team. Why not come along and speak to them to find out more at the open day they are holding at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre on the 15th January 2020.

The RMS Department has the responsibility for carrying out responsive and planned maintenance works for Tenanted and Void properties to Lancaster City Council’s housing and non-housing stock. In order to improve service levels, meet performance targets and increase the working base, the Section is recruiting for 2 Semi Skilled Operatives.

The successful candidate will demonstrate good working skills and techniques with an ability to work on their own initiative with minimum supervision. They will ensure their work continues to meet the current high levels of customer satisfaction.

They will also, with an understanding and experience of working with the Health and Safety at Work Act, ensure safe-working practices are applied.

A full current UK driving licence is essential for this post, as you will be required to work a transient role around the district, as there is a need to travel between locations and travel within the Councils designated area.

This post is 37 hours per week (Monday to Thursday, 8.00am to 4.30pm, and Friday, 8.00am to 3.30pm), however you are required for operational purposes to work 39 hours per week; as this is in excess of the standard 37 hour week, you will accrue 1 days leave for every 20 days worked.

All employees will need to be flexible as you will be allocated works according to the volume of demand in each work stream.

Earlier this year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.

Excellent benefits include: A Local Government Pension Scheme (the Council makes a 15.5% contribution). Discounted gym membership and discount on days out, activities and retail.

Note: The Council is implementing a new Pay and Grading structure and therefore this may be subject to change.

Interview date: Week commencing 10th February 2020
