Maintenance and Facilities Technician
Facilities Management is a dynamic and vibrant team within the Council that manages the corporate property portfolio, which includes historic buildings such as Lancaster Town Hall, the City Museum, The Storey and the Ashton Memorial.
We are looking to recruit a full time Maintenance and Facilities Technician to work within our Maintenance Team. The successful candidate, working closely with the Maintenance Officer and Assistant Facilities Manager, will assist in the delivery of a comprehensive repair and maintenance service.
You will be required to have good technical knowledge and experience in carrying out and overseeing maintenance tasks to ensure that the properties are safe and maintained to a high standard, such as:
- Joinery
- Painting and decorating
- Plumbing
- Electrical
- Plastering and tiling
- Dealing with internal and external contractors and building users as required
In addition, you will assist in the delivery of the broader requirements of the Facilities Management Team, such as:
- Compliance with all appropriate statutory legislation, including legionella, fire safety and asbestos
- Security duties including key holder responsibilities
- Inspection of buildings
- Undertaking monitoring checks
- Use of the Asset Management database to monitor and record all works (training will be provided)

The hours of work are 37 hours per week, primarily working 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday. However, work hours will be required to suit business needs and workload, which may include early morning, evenings and weekends. You may be required to undertake Standby duties to cover out of hours work.
This post is based at Lancaster Town Hall but travelling between sites will be required.
A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to transport tools, equipment and materials across the district.
The successful applicant will be subject to a clearance with the Disclosure Scotland Service.
