HGV Driver
The Role
We are seeking to recruit a reliable, enthusiastic and self-motivated person to assist in the safe delivery of the high-profile services of Waste Collection.
A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to:
- Safely drive HGV’s and other Council vehicles. It is essential you hold an HGV Driving Licence Class C and have the skills required to manoeuvre large vehicles in restricted and difficult areas. Experience of rear steer vehicles would be advantageous.
- Deliver the frontline service of waste and recycling collections.
- Supervise a team of refuse collectors in the practical collection of waste and recyclables.
A current CPC card and the ability to undertake heavy manual work is essential. Previous experience in similar work is desirable.
This is a responsible post and it is essential that you have an appreciation of the contribution that good waste management practices can have to improving the environment and the image of the Council. You must possess good communication skills, be able to supervise and motivate a small team. You must have the ability to undertake a range of duties and to learn quickly, as well as undertaking tasks with a minimum of supervision. You will be required to work both as part of a team and independently.
Communicating clearly and courteously both to your work colleagues and members of the public is paramount as is your ability to work to written instructions. You will have knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and transport regulations.
You must be flexible, as early morning, evening and weekend work are required. You will be required to work in adverse weather conditions and to handle waste. Full training will be given to the successful candidate. The hours of work for this position are 37 per week, working 4 days, 7:00 am to 4:45 pm. On occasion you may be required to work from 6:00 am and may also be required to work until 6:00 pm.
This permanent post is based at White Lund Depot, Westgate, Morecambe.
The successful candidate must be able to work extra “catch-up” days to compensate for every bank and public holiday as dictated by the Operations Manager. Such days will either be the Saturday immediately before the bank holiday or the Saturday after, although in some circumstances you may be required to work the bank holiday.
