Home Improvement Agency Handyperson Technician X2
An opportunity has arisen for two Handyperson Technicians based in the Council’s multi award winning Home Improvement Agency. The aim of the service is to assist residents to be discharged from hospital and other care settings and enable them to remain independent and safe in their own homes.
You will provide a high quality, customer focussed repairs and minor adaptations service in the homes of vulnerable residents throughout the district. You will be responsible for managing your own workload, including making initial contact with clients, arranging appointments and ensuring work is completed in a safe manner.
You should have competent building skills gained through a time served qualification and possess a Level 3 NVQ in a relevant building trade. You will need an ability to identify and carry out a wide range of repairs and adaptations in residential properties.
The post holder will be required to work with minimal supervision and be capable of prioritising workloads. You will have direct contact with colleagues in other services, key partner organisations and members of the public. You will have excellent communication skills and will be committed to high standards of customer service.
Initially the post is fixed term for a period of 12 months. The continuation of the service will depend on the success of the service and the availability of further funding. The hours of work for this position are 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday primarily 9.00am until 5.00 pm. However, there may be a requirement to work outside of these hours when required. You may also be required to undertake standby duties to cover out of hours work. Where standby is required this will be as part of a rota arrangement. Additional payment for standby and callout will be paid at the prevailing rate.
The location of the post is remote working throughout the district; however your admin base will be at Morecambe Town Hall.
The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm.
A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to carry out home visits throughout the district, a council vehicle will be provided.
The successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced clearance with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
